Ukrainian Self-Portraits, 2019
During my residency at IZOLYATSIA, I developed two projects, one of them is Ukrainian Self-Portraits. The main purpose of the project was to allow participants to create their portraits with a mirror and a camera remote control application. I was keen to continue a collaborative project undertaken by American photographer David Attie who came to Kyiv in 1976 in the framework of the American Cultural Exchange Exhibit in Kyiv - Photography USA. He set up a small studio where visitors were invited to take their pictures by pushing a button at the end of a long wire connected to the lightning system. As a result of this experiment, he published a book titled Russian Self-Portraits (1978).
